Getting there & accommodation
OpenSD2027 is held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Aškerčeva cesta 6, 1000 Ljubljana. The faculty sits just south of the old town, about eight minutes on foot from Prešeren Square.
By air
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) is roughly 26 km from the city centre, around a 25 minute drive.
- Bus. Arriva line 28 runs between the airport and Ljubljana’s central bus and railway station, taking about 45 to 50 minutes.
- Shared shuttle. Several operators serve the airport, among them GoOpti, Nomago, Markun and ZUP prevozi. Book ahead for the best price.
- Taxi. Available at the terminal, and the quickest option outside bus hours.
If nothing suits you from LJU, Ljubljana is also within a comfortable drive of several airports across the border. Approximate road distances: Trieste (TRS) 120 km, Zagreb (ZAG) 150 km, Graz (GRZ) 190 km, Venice Marco Polo (VCE) 250 km.
By train or bus
Ljubljana’s railway and bus stations sit side by side at Trg Osvobodilne fronte, a short walk north of the old town. International services connect the city with Vienna, Zagreb, Munich and Venice, among others. The faculty is about twenty minutes away on foot, or a few minutes by city bus.
Getting around
Ljubljana’s centre is compact and largely closed to cars, so most of it is best covered on foot.
City buses are run by LPP. You can pay with a contactless bank card, or with the prepaid Urbana card, which allows free transfers within 90 minutes. The city also has a public bike-share scheme, BicikeLJ, with stations across the centre and the first hour of each ride free.
Accommodation
There is no conference room block, so you are free to book whatever suits you. Almost anything in the city centre will be within walking distance of the venue, and the area around the station is a fifteen to twenty minute walk away.
Late June falls in the high season in Ljubljana, and the city is small. Book early.
Entry requirements
Slovenia is a member of the European Union and of the Schengen area. Travellers from outside the EU should check the entry rules that apply to their nationality before booking.
The EU’s Entry/Exit System has been operating across the Schengen area since April 2026, so non-EU visitors register biometric data on first entry. The ETIAS travel authorisation is not yet required, though it is expected to come into force; check travel-europe.europa.eu closer to the conference.
If you need an invitation letter for a visa application, write to janko.slavic@fs.uni-lj.si once you are registered.
